That’s going to depend on your taste buds but here are some recommended places to try.

  • Maryland has 13 ice cream makers.
  • Pennsylvania 22
  • Virginia 5
  • Washington DC  none

The Best Ice Cream Shop Recommendations

Group members from Things to do in Maryland recommended the following places to buy ice cream.

Always Ice Cream, Annapolis and Edgewater. Both described as incredible!

BMore Licks, Baltimore. BMore Licks has great soft and regular ice cream that they can mix with so many toppings it’s crazy. A fun summer thing!

Broom’s Bloom, Bel Air. Broom’s Bloom and Woodbourne Creamery at Rock Hill are excellent. If you have to avoid nuts, Woodbourne uses none.

Daily Scoop, Pasadena.

Hoffman’s, Westminster. Hoffman’s had the most recommendations from group members, who said that the ice cream is pretty good! Family owned place 🙂

Island Creamery, Salisbury, BerlinScottish Highland Creamery-Saint Michael’s

Jarrettsville Creamery, Jarrettsville. My favorite is coconut almond chip! It’s in Harford County

Keyes Creamery, Churchville, MD… there are a couple of local places/farm stands that sell their ice cream, too.

Mrs. Moo’s, in Prince Frederick. Beautiful homemade desserts.

Nutters Ice Cream, Sharpsburg. Is wonderful.

Pitango Gelato, eight locations in MD, VA and DC. Fresh from the dairy, it is amazing.

Taharka Brothers, 4 locations in Baltimore. Taharka’s Graham Cracker ice cream is OUTRAGEOUSLY delicious!!

Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream, Bethesda and Rockville. Orange chip is my son’s absolute favorite flavor!

Simmon’s Ice Cream. Snydersburg. They always have Chocolate and Vanilla and whatever fruits are in season

University of Maryland has its own dairy. The ice cream is awesome, I had it there on Maryland Day in late April. You can get it at Stamp Student Union, 3972 Campus Drive, College Park.

Homemade in your kitchen was recommended by quite a few people – super easy – cream, sweetener of choice, Vx, milk. Then add whatever you want. Much healthier and much more delicious. Google any ice cream recipe.

Maryland’s Ice Cream Trail

Maryland’s Ice Cream Trail is an adventure for ice cream lovers. The map details 11 dairy farms that make and sell ice cream directly from their farms. The challenge is to visit all 11 stops before Sep 10, 2024 to be crowned an Ice Cream Trail Blazer Champion, and be entered to win gift cards.
