Light House Bistro – Dining with Heart
The Light House Bistro occupies space in a row of nondescript brick buildings on West Street in Annapolis, but it has evolved into a restaurant known for delicious food. Brunch is served all day.
The atmosphere at Light House Bistro is relaxed and welcoming. The inside has an industrial vibe with brick walls and warm wood tones, or diners can sit at tables outside. The service has always been excellent. Waitstaff are people in training through the B.E.S.T. workforce development program.
Menu Options
A variety of omelets, flatbreads, pancakes and waffles fit the bill for breakfast lovers. They are all tasty. If you would rather have lunch, sandwiches, burgers and salads are great options. Portions are large, and gluten-free options are available. Light House Bistro also offers wine, beer and specialty cocktails.
We had an order of Crab Dip with a Kick. It comes with warm baguette pieces and house fried tortilla chips. It was a huge amount of very tasty Crab Dip with big chunks of crab meat. Smearing the dip over a slice of warm baguette was mouth-watering, and it was very filling with only two of us. This dish could easily serve six people as an appetizer.
Our favorite lunch sandwich is the Bistro Club. It’s the house-made cranberry-pecan chicken salad, with tomato, bacon, and greens, on a multigrain baguette. It comes with hand-cut fries, and it is always a satisfying lunch.
Dining With Heart
But it’s the mission of Light House Bistro that sets it apart from other restaurants. The Light House Bistro is a Social Enterprise, creating revenue from its restaurant and reinvesting profits back into the mission of the organization. The Light House Bistro provides employment for people experiencing homelessness, trains people for jobs through their workforce development program, and provides training for culinary students.
Proceeds from the sale of Granola, made by Light House staff members, go back into their mission to “rebuild lives with compassion by providing shelter and services to prevent homelessness and empower people as they transition toward employment, housing, and self-sufficiency.”
