SOUPer Bowls

SOUPer Bowl was started to help the estimated 749,200 people in Maryland who are facing hunger, 221,000 of them children. For the 19th year, Heritage Baptist Church in Annapolis will host a Donation-only lunch to benefit homeless prevention services for those in need.

Sunday, February 9, 11:30 am-1:30pm, Heritage Baptist Church, 1740 Forest Drive, Annapolis, will host the 19th Annual SOUPer Bowl Lunch for the Light House Homeless Prevention Center. Volunteers will ladle soups prepared by guest chef Brian Shallcross, an HBC member and general manager of the Chesapeake Baysox. Menu soups include Chicken Noodle, Baked Potato, and Chili. Guests will also enjoy salad, fresh rolls, and dessert.

The public is invited, and admission is free, but donations are requested to benefit the Light House. This year, SOUPer Bowl volunteers hope to raise $10,000. Donations can be made at the event or online now at this link, and selecting “SOUPer Bowl” as the reason for your donation. One hundred percent of the money donated goes directly to the Light House. Since its inception in 2007, this event has raised over $60,000 cumulatively.

Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite NFL team jerseys that day, whether their team is in the big game or not. Guests are welcome to attend the worship service with Pastor Scott Shelton at 10:30 a.m., before the lunch.

Heritage Baptist is an affiliate congregational partner of the Light House. For more information, contact the church office at 410-263-6680, or see the church website, HeritageLoves.com

Good Neighbors Group S(O)uper Bowl

The Good Neighbors Group is hosting a different S(O)uPer Bowl to restock local food pantries. To date, 63 neighborhoods have signed up to participate.

This event, beginning the Thursday before the Super Bowl and culminating on Super Bowl Sunday, is a fun competition between local neighborhoods to collect as much food as possible to restock local pantries when shelves are depleted after the winter holidays.  Each participating neighborhood needs a Captain to publicize the event and establish a neighborhood collection spot.  Items must be counted and delivered to the designated food pantry on Super Bowl Sunday. Neighborhood winners are announced the following week.  Make sure your neighborhood is represented!

Check the Good Neighbors Group website If you would like to donate or be a neighborhood collection spot. The urgent needs for each donation site vary from baby food, diapers, and wipes to fruits, vegetables, oatmeal, and toothpaste. Donations  will be sent to the following food banks:

Anne Arundel County Food Bank

My Brothers Pantry

ACAN

St. Luke’s Food Pantry

SPAN
